@tripfunkmonster The rate of deaths caused by Alzheimer’s disease increased by 66% from 2000 to 2008. Is that caused by “cutting down the EPA” as well? No, the answer is simply that our population is aging, old people get Alzheimer’s disease, old people get cancer. Attempting to connect the EPA with cancer rates is ridiculous.

@jsmithb117: I see you are an enemy of science & fact. The increasing use of toxic chemicals in a large portion of products in the U.S. has been shown to have a definite connection to rising cancer rates. The EPA is routinely outspent by corporations in court battles when they are trying to ban the use of products with KNOWN mutagens, some of which are carcinogens. They pass those litigation costs onto us which cost us more money than the tax money spent by the EPA. Who’s being ridiculous?

@jsmithb117: You’re being disingenuous with the way you are defining my comments. It is not the job of the EPA to promote the economy, any more than it is the job of the Dept. of Commerce to do environmental impact studies. Each compartment of OUR gov’t has a specific responsibility. While it is diligent to look at all effects of any particular piece of legislation, the EPA can’t keep up with all the work it has – thanks to being underfunded by the corporate gov’t. It’s constantly buried under..

@jsmithb117: …a mound of litigation by corprations who poison the environment and use our country like a garbage dump. I find it difficult to understand why someone would argue so vehemently against the health of him/herself as well as the health of the rest of the country. Why don’t you complain about the tax breaks given to billion dollar corporations – some of which are foreign? Or about multinational corporations leaving behind toxic waste sites after they’ve finished making their money?

@tripfunkmonster The Dept of Comm doesn’t disregard it’s impact on the environment so why should the EPA disregard it’s impact on the economy? Doing basic research on cost of compliance for new regulations isn’t to “promote the economy” but to prevent the EPA from destroying our economy. Perhaps the EPA wouldn’t be buried under a mound of litigation if corporations and small businesses alike weren’t buried under a mound of obscure, obtuse government regulations. Google “three felonies a day”

@jsmithb117: If businesses are being buried under a mound of regulation, then why are so many raking in record profits? Where are businesses having problems? They pass ALL their problems down to the middle class. They have plenty of cash on hand – yet they don’t spend it on hiring. Who has seen their “piece of the pie” shrink in relation to the other in the last 30 or 40 years, the corporate elite or the middle class? THAT’S what it’s about.

@jsmithb117: Close to half of discretionary spending in our budget goes to the DOD. Who benefits from that? Who gets access to cheap resources from other countries when we illegally invade, then doesn’t pass the savings to us – but increases their profits? Who benefits when the World Bank forces developing countries to privatize their basic infrastructure to settle a debt & sell to multinational corporations? Who holds back hiring to squeeze the middle class into compliance with their wishes?

It’s called the Environmental Protection Agency. I don’t see Labor in their title. I don’t see why anyone would expect EPA to have jobs as part of their jobs to assess the impact of environmental regulation.
