We as a nation have to understand the wise words of General MacArthur, “War is hell”! I’m sure he is not the first person to ever say this. Our military fights wars so that civilians do not have to deal with it. What comes along with war is capturing of prisoners. Believe it or not, there are certain measures that do call for abuse, such as, gaining information. If someone has information that can save military personnel, or have information that will harm innocent civilians as well as military personnel, this my friends is a reason to beat the crap out of someone. If they won’t talk, you make them talk. There are strict measures set intact that deal with these issues during war.
Now before I go any further, I want to state that these are measures utilized by professionals, not people that are not properly trained. The abuse we have witnessed via television and pictures of Iraqi prisoners have been horrendous but the abuse that disgusted me most were the pictures of some of our soldiers lurking over dead Iraqi bodies with their “thumbs up” signs. These people were idiots and evidently should not have been performing the jobs in which they were performing.
They were kids who obviously had never been in charge of anything in their life and enjoyed the cold and calculating control that was bestowed upon them.
In not being in agreement with some of the abuse, I also feel we need to be fair here. The world has been in an outrage over the Iraqi detainee abuse. Where was the worlds outrage when American troops were forced to march in the “Bataan Death March”? When our soldiers were being beheaded for the sole reason they were so sick and starved, they fell behind in the formation.
Our own American troops were starved, denied medical care and forced to live in squalor conditions. Where were all these soap box dwellers then? How about our Vietnam POW’s? How about our POW’s from other wars? I say unless you have been in war, you have no right to judge.
I will state that I personally know that the American troops are not perfect, they have made mistakes in the past, horrible mistakes, such as incidents that have happened in Vietnam, World War II through even this war. I do know that our country is one of the few countries in this world that still follows the Geneva Convention.
There are bad people in all countries, but I still feel that forcing a POW who is Islamic to stand naked should not be labeled as abuse. I do realize that the Islamic religion calls for meekness. I feel if you are in POW status, you’re religion is the last thing you should be worried about. Prisoners are stripped naked largely due to the fact they are being searched for paraphanailia. There are many orifices on our body that can hide things such as weapons, I know this is hard to believe, but ask any prisoner guard within our country and they will tell you this to be fact.
These Iraqi prisoners want to scream their religious rights have been violated. Please inform me where it states in the Islam religion that beheading of innocent civilians is ok according to “Allah”? Is this not unjust and inhumane? My opinion is that if Iraq as a whole would stop their whining and focus more on taking over their country then our troops along with the allied troops could come home.
Before you stand up and preach on the abuse of POW’s please educate yourself on the tactics of war. It’s so easy for people whom are hypocrites to stand up and say, this is right or wrong. Imagine yourself in the shoes of troops whom are faced with these decisions on a daily basis.
We in America only see what the media portrays to us, we do not see what is going on behind the scenes. If you believe everything the media says and portrays to the public, then you evidently are just a follower and have no right to voice your opinion. Please remember our POW’s whom still are not home from all wars. Remember their families. Let’s allow the military to do their job and keep our noses out of it.
